Walk my way

WALK MY WAY
It’s been over 2½ months since I last sent a Curly Comment. Maybe I’m slowing down even more as I get older – I turned 68 on Wednesday! Perhaps, but we seem to have been occupied with lots of other things: organising worship at St Stephen’s, performing at a couple schools, leading worship at Victor Harbor, & having several people stay at our Middleton place courtesy of a recent sign-up to Airbnb.
And on July 4 I did the Pioneer Women’s Walk (26 km) from Hahndorf to Beaumont, along with over 200 others. We raised over $100,000 for ALWS (Australian Lutheran World service. There were showers during the walk, & the track for the last 5-6 kms (a meandering bullock track) got a bit muddy & slippery. Without the help of 2 companions, Michael & Gaynor Gower, this MS-balance-person would not have got to the end.
Right when I first signed up for the walk, I wanted to write a song for the day. The chorus happened very quickly, using phrases from the ‘Walk My Way’ brochure. Verses too, but like a lot of songs, it took a fair while to be redone, rewritten, rearranged. Kirra Lewis, who led the organising, promoting of the walk had a big hand in the song, suggesting a reworking of the verses.
Walk my way won’t you walk my way
Stepping out to bring love to life
Walk my way won’t you walk my way
making a difference, one step at a time
After their homes were burning down, running to stay alive;
danger on every path they followed,
needing a place to hide. (Walk my way…)
How can we start to understand all they were going through?
Maybe we’ll catch a glimpse or two by
walking a while in their shoes. (Walk my way…)
Raising money for building schools in Kenya, Djibouti, Sudan
Money to pay the teachers, and
buy pens, books, pencils – whatever we can!
Walk my way won’t you walk my way
Stepping out to bring love to life
Walk my way won’t you walk my way
making a difference, one step at a time Robin Mann © 2017
I was pleased to sing it at the opening of the day at St Michael’s, Hahndorf.

Just wondering if there is an audio version of your walk my way song that I can use for my chapel service on the 28th June. This year, again, we are raising money for ALWS by hosting a walkathon.
Many thanks,
Deb
